Babar Azam 98 against Cricket Australia 2016

In the first warm up game against Cricket Australia, Pakistan has completed their second win. This is the also their second win of the series and both of them have come against Cricket Australia. Babar Azam remained the top scorer of the match.

Babar hit a magnificent 98 and missed his hundred by just 2 runs. It was really gutsy innings from the young lad. His cousin Umar Akmal also batted really well but Babar at number three position was pretty incredible. He was the best of the lot from the Pakistan side.

Babar started the batting against the new ball. The first wicket went down early for Pakistan hence Babar had to come out early. He played really well against the new ball which is the main demand when you are playing for a team like Pakistan. The openers and one down of Pakistan mostly has this one job in hand and that is to save the wickets and get the ball old. Pakistan team plays with the same 90s mentality. Save the wickets and then swing hard in the final ten overs. This methodology now does not work.

The bowling sides have taken this method out for good. Pakistan loses a lot of early wickets and as a result they struggle in the limited overs cricket. Babar Azam knew this and hence he played defensively at the start of the game. Babar then stroke a cover drive and got a boundary on the off side. This was a delightful looking shot. The ball was pitched up to him outside the off stump and Babar stretched his leg to reach to the pitch of the ball and glide this one in the gap for a four.

Babar did play in the five test matches in New Zealand and Australia and he had a complete failure in all of them. He did not get much runs for the reason that this was his first time in New Zealand and Australia with the international team. So it is hard to adjust in the test format.

Here he got a pitch which he liked and his runs started to flow the moment he went in. he looked confident. In the test series he was a little bit shaky but today he was loaded with confidence. Babar made sure that he stays positive and attacks the batters. Babar made 98 runs. He was out with just two runs short of getting his first hundred in Australia. This could have given him a lot of boosting but then again his innings was a special one.
